Forty acres, one family, a long-held idea.

Our Story

A Place We Were Meant to Find

A legacy built with purpose.

We are Carroll and Amber Morgan, and if you're wondering how a century-old farmhouse, a field full of wildlife, and a family dream became The Camp at Morgan Meadows, it all started with one unexpected stop on a summer morning.

For generations, our family has called Canton, North Carolina home. The mountains, creeks, and rolling farmland of Haywood County are woven into who we are, and after growing up and raising our children here, we knew we wanted our next chapter to stay rooted in these same hills.

Finding Home

Sometimes the right place finds you.

When the housing market was high, we made the bittersweet decision to sell the home where we raised our kids and begin looking for property closer to our work. We toured countless homes and tracts of land, but nothing ever felt quite right.

Then one summer morning, on our way to a long hike, we stopped by this property at daybreak expecting it to be just another place that didn’t check all the boxes.

Instead, we were greeted by a scene we’ll never forget: bunnies hopping through the grass, deer standing quietly in the clearing, a family of turkeys marching across the field, bees buzzing, birds singing from every direction, and the sweet scent of honeysuckle drifting through the air.

In that moment, we knew this was home.

Breathing New Life Into an Old Farm

Preserving the past while creating something new

The old farmhouse sitting on the property was a hundred years old and in rough shape. Most people told us it should be torn down, but something about it deserved another chance.

After months of renovation, the little house still held onto its original floors and the names of those passed on carved into the concrete porch, while gaining a fresh new life as our cozy empty-nester home.

At first, we only knew we wanted to bring our tiny farm and live a simpler life here, but we also felt this land was too special to keep only for ourselves. The idea for a campground actually came from our daughter, Madison, who is always dreaming up entrepreneurial adventures.

What began as a casual conversation quickly grew into a real plan—a way to preserve this beautiful landscape while inviting others to experience the peace we found here that morning at dawn.

And so, The Camp at Morgan Meadows was born.

Built by Family. Shared with You.

A place to slow down, reconnect, and make memories

Today, this place is very much a family effort. When not working in the barn, the flowers, or the campground, Amber works in regional operations for a group of nursing homes across Western North Carolina and Tennessee. Carroll keeps the property running with endless mowing, fence building, weed-eating, and animal care—work he jokingly says he does for free—while also working at a steel plant in Fletcher, North Carolina. Our daughter Madison works in nursing home operations as well, and our son Trey proudly serves as a soldier in the United States Army.

We built this campground because we believe places like this matter. In a busy world, there's something healing about a quiet creek, a campfire under the stars, and mornings filled with birdsong instead of alarms.

Our hope is that during your stay at The Camp at Morgan Meadows, you'll find a little peace in the woods, a little rest by the creek, and maybe even feel the same sense of wonder we felt the first time we stood here at sunrise.

We're grateful to share this precious place with you.
